another day

from start to finish, it was yet another very snowy day in pittsburgh today. other than the roads being a little slippery and dangerous, i'm finding all of this snow very pleasant and beautiful, a blanket of pure white on an otherwise gray cityscape. i haven't even been minding the shoveling. it's nice to have an excuse to be outside when the weather is like this, so pretty and peaceful.

nothing exceptional about today really. i worked happily in the lab most of the day, actually really enjoying some of the things i'm doing as it looks like a tough ligation finally worked and i may be able to start making my virus next week. i have some planning to do for a second virus that should come together much more quickly than this one, but i'm having trouble wrapping my brain around its design. erik's doing much better, nearly 100% and back to his old self tonight. the three of us had a good evening with peter giving him his bath and me tucking him in. now we're watching the dvd peter got me for christmas - 13 most beautiful ... songs for andy warhol's screen tests which is most excellent. i will definitely be watching this again and again. peter is going to try to figure out how to rip the soundtrack off of it so i can have it on my ipod. if anyone knows how to do this, please let me know!

i've been listening a lot this week to galaxie 500's album 'on fire.' so many great songs on that album, including leave the planet, snowstorm, strange, and an excellent cover of new order's ceremony. but i've completely fallen in love again with the hauntingly beautiful another day:
